Kino Kabaret

experimental workshop

The kino-movement started at the turn of this century in Montreal, when a group of young filmmakers accepted the challenge of shooting a short-film each month until the year 2000.

They never stopped their monthly screenings and today the movement has found its way to 60 cities in over 20 countries. Many new ideas and challenges have been developed since, the most prominent being the KinoKabaret (which you can experience at GENERATOR this year) and the KinoBus, a mobile version of the Kino Kabaret travelling through remote villages making short films on the road.

Even though each part of the movement is very different, the main goal is to create non-competitive environments where filmmakers can realize their ideas quickly, exchange knowledge, share resources and experiment.

In three days in Strasbourg, the KinoKabaret participants will make short films, which will be screened on the final night of the event, Sunday January 27th at Cinéma l’Odyssée at 20:00.
